About Long Beach
Long Beach in Kommetjie is just as the name suggests - a long stretch of beach that is perfect for a long walk. This is a very popular spot with families and those with dogs. Don’t be surprised when you find an enthusiastic pup run up to you for a sniff before he bounds down the beach is complete joy. The dogs will come in all shapes and sizes.
This is a very good spot for surfing and might just be better known for the surfing opportunity than the beach, even though the beach itself it quite pretty. The swell holds up well here to the South Westerly wind and is one of the only spots in Cape Town that offers that, so you will find the water busy even when the wind pumps. The waves can be quite busy, so remember to wait your turn.
Otherwise bring a picnic and make a day of it by sitting on the beach and working on that tan. If you do go on a walk you might just find yourself on the Noordhoek Beach if you walk far enough and keep your eyes open for the Kakapo a well preserved shipwreck from 1900.
