About Silwerstroomstrand

The vibrant West Coast of South Africa is littered with quaint fishing villages, amazing natural features, plenty of history, lashings of culture and mile after mile of gorgeous South African landscapes. Silwerstroomstrand, which means “silver stream beach” in Afrikaans, is a fantastic Blue Flag beach perched in the heart of all the West Coast loveliness.

Being awarded the status of a Blue Flag Beach is no mean feat. The beach has to meet a lot of different criteria, which combine to make it a must for visitors. It needs to have safe swimming conditions, ablutions, life guards, and be educational; amongst other things. Silwerstroomstrand is all of these with the added bonus of being in a secluded spot - just irresistible to weary travellers in need of some real rest and relaxation.

In addition to splashing in the waves or bronzing up on the beach, visitors to Silwerstroomstrand can also spend time in the warmer waters of the tidal pool or take advantage of the small rocky point (Wintersteen), where there aren’t massive waves. This beach is also great for surfing, stand-up paddle boarding, fishing, and boating.

The beach has shaded picnic and braai (barbecue) sites, as well as benches and toilet facilities. This means that families can spend the whole day here, enjoying the breath-taking views and convenient amenities.

Silwerstroomstrand is part of the West Coast Way Culture Route, which starts just 20 minutes after leaving the Mother City of Cape Town. This Blue Flag Beach is about 60 kilometres from Cape Town, making it really accessible. There is plenty of parking and the walkways are paved, so they are suitable for those in wheelchairs or pushing prams.
