As the only heritage centre globally dedicated to the San, it delivers an authentic, collaboratively curated experience that presents their heritage in a meaningful and engaging manner. Through education, storytelling, and carefully designed experiences, the centre shares both ancient insight and contemporary perspectives on San life.

San Guided Tours:
Each San Guided Tour at !Khwa ttu offers a distinctive experience, thoughtfully created to engage the body, mind, and senses. These guided encounters showcase the exceptional skills, profound knowledge, and understated sophistication of the San people, often highlighting how much traditional wisdom has faded in the modern age.

Tea Tasting, The Veld Pharmacy:
This experience reveals how San and other Indigenous communities have long understood the medicinal value of plants. What may appear to be ordinary flowers or shrubs are, in reality, part of a complex and effective natural pharmacy. Participants are introduced to knowledge that once sustained all humans as hunter-gatherers thousands of years ago, including remedies for healing, methods for survival during long journeys, and even practices linked to courtship. Guests are invited to enjoy a nourishing herbal tea, with the added possibility of hearing a traditional story shared in |Xung.

First People, Food from the Ancestors:
This journey offers insight into the shared origins of humankind in southern Africa. Drawing on archaeological evidence, it explores the lives of early humans who inhabited the region for more than 200,000 years, while illustrating how San knowledge has preserved elements of this heritage into the present. Visitors are given the opportunity to handle traditional tools, engage with ancient practices, and experience the types of food that once sustained life in a challenging environment.

Encounters, When Cultures Collide:
For thousands of years, San ancestors lived as hunter-gatherers with minimal outside influence. Around 2,000 years ago, new communities began to arrive, followed by European settlers at the Cape of Good Hope approximately 350 years ago. These interactions brought profound and lasting change, shaping cultural and social dynamics that remain evident today. This experience examines these moments of contact with depth and sensitivity, moving beyond simplified narratives to present a more nuanced understanding of history.

The Way of the San, Spirit, Hunting and Gathering:
This experience introduces a worldview grounded in deep connection between people, land, animals, plants, and natural elements. It demonstrates how traditional hunter-gatherer knowledge extended beyond survival, encompassing a balanced and thoughtful way of life. Visitors are encouraged to consider a philosophy in which understanding the natural world leads to a reduced dependence on material needs.

Tracking, Reading the Signs:
This experience demonstrates that survival in the natural environment relies on far more than identifying footprints. Guided by a San expert, visitors are introduced to the subtle indicators of the landscape, including tracks, signs near water sources, wind direction, and other environmental cues that reveal hidden stories. The experience also incorporates a contemporary element, a ride on !Khwa ttu’s well-known green tractor, offering a fresh perspective while connecting traditional knowledge with the surrounding terrain.
