Picklepot Cafe is the tranquil "middle of nowhere" destination that travel-weary drivers look for around each corner whilst traveling the R617 between Howick and Bulwer.
The legendary scones and cream, sublime salads, homemade burgers, bunnychows and all-day breakfasts, are some of the most popular menu options. The generous portions are beautifully presented and the chefs' attention to detail is remarkable. The owner-manager is a connoisseur of homemade pickles, especially chilli recipes of which there are several varieties to choose from the sample boards served with the meals.
Children delight in the simple joys of the adventure playground set alongside a bubbling stream and indigenous wetland, with catch and release fishing at the little bass dam and a rambling hike through indigenous mistbelt forest available activities too. For the more energetic visitors, the 2 hour hike to the top of the forested hill towering above Picklepot Cafe is well worth the panoramic views of the Sani Pass and adjacent peaks of the southern Drakensberg range.
Find Picklepot Cafe is alongside the R617 Main Road, which connects the southern Drakensberg towns of Kokstad, Ixopo, Creighton, Underberg and Bulwer with the Midlands Meander, Howick and Pietermaritzburg.
