About Natal Fly Fishers Club

The scenic province of KwaZulu-Natal is one of South Africa’s most abundant in terms of flora and fauna. It is a veritable retreat for those that love the outdoors and want to indulge in some quiet time spent savouring gorgeous views and breathing in the fresh, crisp air of the countryside.

The Natal Fly Fishers Club (NFFC) is a non-profit organisation that puts eager fly fishermen onto 15 different rivers and 33 dams across the province, giving them ample opportunity to experience the true thrill of fly fishing and to catch some wonderfully exciting trout, yellowfish and bass. This is KwaZulu-Natal’s largest provider of fly fishing, but ensures that the annual membership is reasonably-priced enough that even visitors that only make it to South Africa once or twice a year are well rewarded by being members.

The Natal Fly Fishers Club has access to more than 30 dams spread over private farms in the Kamberg Valley, Dargle, and Mooi River. It also has access to river stretches on the Mooi River, Umgeni River and Elands River. The private farm dams are renowned for their large trout, and are especially popular in the winter months. The rivers are also amongst the first stocked in South Africa and have 127 years of trout fishing history. In addition, they are some of the very few rivers in the country that are home to brown trout. As a result, they have become iconic waters in local fly fishing literature.

The NFFC is also involved in a number of conservation initiatives. These include clearing the Mooi River and Umgeni River of invasive alien plant species (which threaten the lives of the animals living in these waters), and organising fundraising events.

Experience the loveliness of South Africa’s dams and rivers on the fly fishing adventure of a lifetime, while benefitting from the experience and resources of the NFFC.
