About Llandudno Ravine Hiking Trails
If you’ve bagged yourself some of the luxury accommodation in Llandudno, you’ll certainly want to explore some of the sea- and landscapes that make this part of Cape Town so spectacular. The Llandudno Ravine showcases this area with breath-taking views of the Atlantic Ocean.
This ravine leads up the 12 Apostles mountains, which represent the peaks behind the iconic Table Mountain. Exploring the ravine on this trail is a round trip that takes about 4.5 hours to finish. Travellers tackling this route may not have the option of a cable car (like the one that transports folk up to the top of Table Mountain), but they certainly get to enjoy the ultimate in beauty and serenity on this gorgeous trail. The views of Table Mountain, the ocean, and the Cape Peninsula from the ravine are nothing short of awe-inspiring.
There are two spots along the way at which the hiking can be taken up a notch, so to speak. Hikers that want a more adventurous and energetic hike can opt for more challenging routes that include dizzying heights, some heart-racing scrambles, and extra focus on footwork. Hout Bay Corner is particularly challenging, and hikers can even look forward to using a rope to tackle some of its sections.
Once you get to the top, the panoramic views from the two vantage points are incredible. The two points are called Judas Peak and Llandudno Peak. If you’re feeling even more energetic, you can hike along the spine of the 12 Apostles mountains for an additional four to ix hours to get to the cable car on the top of Table Mountain. From here, you can take the modern cable car down the mountain to a parking area that is only about 10 minutes’ drive from the City Bowl, V & A Waterfront, and the CTICC.
Alternatively, stick to the shorter Llandudno Ravine trail, heading back down from the summit and finishing off where you started. It is a quieter trail, seldom tackled by more than one group at a time.
