About Eikendal Wine Estate
The Saager family hailing from Zurich Switzerland have owned Eikendal since 1981. Once they saw the farm within the ‘Golden Triangle’ of the Cape Helderberg, they set part planting vineyards and building and cellar.
The noble varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Shiraz, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc grow beautifully receiving cool ocean breezes.
There is so much to keep you busy on the farm. You can enjoy an alfresco lunch at the restaurant, a walk in the vineyard or even stay the night. Or there’s the real reason you visited; Nico Grobler’s wines.
There are classic varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and the Flagship Bordeaux-style Eikendal Classique. Harvest time between February and March is the best time to visit, when guests can observe the grape picking whilst on a tracker ride or take the plunge and pick the grapes yourself. There’s also live music and barrel stomping. There are two dams on the farm stocked with fish to kept he fly fishermen busy. Get fly fishing gear in the store and relax beside the dam.
