About Sunshine Coast Beaches
If you’ve booked accommodation on the Sunshine Coast, you have put yourself in the perfect position for a stunning beach holiday in South Africa; because this area is home to hundreds of kilometres of spectacular coastline. The Sunshine Coast stretches from Tsitsikamma (on the Garden Route), through Port Elizabeth, and onto East London in the Eastern Cape. This translates to about 500 kilometres of unspoilt coast, which is peppered with absolutely gorgeous beaches.

Cape St Francis, about an hour from Port Elizabeth, has a quiet beach that is just breath-taking (called Cape St Francis Marina). It has been awarded Blue Flag status and is all kinds of beautiful for families and friends looking for a seaside time-out.
Jeffrey’s Bay is renowned around the world for its incredible surfing conditions. The most popular surf spots include Boneyards, Supertubes, Kitchen Windows, Albatross and Magnatubes. For those that prefer to laze on the sand or splash around in the waves, head to Main Beach or Paradise Beach. The water in J-Bay is fairly warm (averaging around 22 degrees Celsius in summer and 19 degrees in winter).
Further along the coast are the gorgeous beaches of Port Elizabeth; which include Kings, Humewood, Hobie, Pollock, Sardinia Bay, Maitlands and Bluewater Bay.
Between Port Elizabeth and East London, there are a number of little seaside towns like Kenton-on-Sea and Port Alfred. This entire area is punctuated by massive river mouths that lead to picturesque beaches. But, despite being so absolutely stunning, many of these beaches remain quiet almost all year round. This means that visitors get to enjoy the endless white sands, warm blue waters, and pretty green coastal vegetation in absolute serenity. The rivers often create shallower, safer places for little ones to play in, while the waves all along the Eastern Cape shores are perfect for surfing and stand-up paddling. This province is known for its windy afternoons, which is great news for kite-surfers.
East London is a busy metropolis, but it boasts a very pretty shore. This is an extremely popular hotspot for kite-surfers and surfers that would opt for a day on the water above one spent anywhere else. Kidd’s Beach, Leechers, Shelly Beach, and Fullers Bay are all great for a swim, paddle and surf. Gonubie Beach is a Blue Flag Beach that is excellent for swimming and exploring. Nahoon is also idyllic for swimming and surfing and remains relatively quiet, as are Bonza Bay and Cove Rock beaches.
