The V & A Food Market is a bustling self-proclaimed “powerhouse of innovation” when it comes to inventing, creating, refining and pushing cuisine to the ultimate limits.

It is situated in what was once the Old Power Station, which dates back to 1882. This building used to be responsible for providing the whole of the Mother City with power. Today, it powers Cape Town up with artisanal creations and hearty meals. The Old Power Station is in the heart of the vibrant Waterfront; the perfect spot for celebrating endless flavours and good times with friends.

There are 42 vendors that showcase artisanal street food and more conventional treats. These include The Creamery, Bubble Tea Company, Cape Town Spice Market, Gorgeous Nuts, Gourmet Pantry, Le Chocolatier, Mex It Up, Sushi to Go, Truth Coffee, Tunisian Delights, Vagabond Kitchens, and Wharf Craft. Hungry visitors can expect to be utterly spoiled for choice, even those who have special dietary requirements (such as Halaal or vegan meals). There are two bars, which have more than 100 local craft beers and 15 different gins, as well as top-notch South African wines and other spirits.

The market is open from Monday to Sunday, and there is excellent free live music on the weekends and on public holidays. Local produce is celebrated alongside international trends and innovative approaches. Outside, there is a play gym to keep little ones busy.

There are inviting indoor chairs and tables, as well as outdoor ones that have absolutely breath-taking views of the mountain, ocean and the working harbour. The space itself is characterised by classic original steel and wood features, and the double volume means that it is airy and light.
