Ons Winkel-kie (Afrikaans for ‘our little shop’) is precisely that – a little shop in which all sorts of tasty treats and South African favourites can be found. Ons Winkel-kie is situated in Hopefield, a small town on the West Coast of South Africa, a beautiful part of the Western Cape Province.

This shop has plenty in the way of arts and crafts, as well as a convenient copy shop and internet café for those needing to contact loved ones or conduct business. For travellers that need a good, hot cup of coffee or a delicious South African meal, the coffee shop is a must. There is also a tuisnywerheid, or home industries, where loads of goodies for the house are made (often by hand) and sold. There is also a range of freshly baked cakes and tarts for those with a sweet tooth or something to celebrate.

Ons Winkel-kie is open from Monday to Saturday, 09h00 to 18h00. It offers views of the local Dutch Reformed Church, which dates back to 1879 and showcases one of only 10 Forster and Andrews Organs ever to be brought into South Africa. It arrived in the church in 1911, and continues to b used for the church service every Sunday. Visitors to Hopefield that want to see the organ can arrange to view it by appointment.

Simply Bee is situated in Hopefield too, and is dedicated to educating others about honey bees, and to providing safe, efficient hives for these energetic little manufacturers to live and work in. Tours of the facilities are available, as are honey and propolis products, which are nutritious and have many healing products.

Hopefield is also home to a number of shops, banks, and small businesses. It is a charming little town that invites visitors to spend some time roaming the streets and exploring its character, before coming for a hearty meal or a cold drink at Ons Winkel-kie.
