Exploring a destination on a bicycle combines fun, fitness and a comfortable pace. Exploring Cape Town on an electric bike means even more fun and adventure. An added bonus is that there is minimal effort (unless you want to pick up the pace a bit), as you can gear up and let the motor do the work, while you relax and enjoy the scenery.

Tour the Peninsula of the Western Cape with E-lectric Ventures for the experience of a lifetime. The tour starts in Hout Bay (transport to Hout Bay is provided) at 08h00, where you will begin your excursion by boarding Drumbeat Charters for an hour-long cruise to Duiker Island. Here, a Cape fur seal colony welcomes their visitors with playful antics and lazy wallowing. When you return back to Hout Bay, you’ll be ready to head off to the spectacular Cape Point Nature Reserve, following the spectacular coastal route that includes Chapman’s Peak. This route promises breath-taking views and unbeatable photo opportunities.

At Cape Point, a 22 kilometre cycle tour through the reserve will showcase the fauna and flora, including some stunning fynbos species. Look out for ostrich, baboon, bontebok, zebra, springbok, eland and blesbok. This part of the tour includes a visit to the Cape of Good Hope, Buffelsbaai, and the memorials of Dias and Da Gama. Hop out of the saddle and climb the 290 steps to the Cape Point Lighthouse, from where absolutely incredible views of the ocean and mountains can be savoured. The restaurant or kiosks at Cape Point provide excellent lunches or snacks for cyclists, before heading back to the road to continue the adventure.

From Cape Point, the group will head towards Boulders Beach in Simon’s Town via Smitswinkelbaai, Miller’s Point, and Rocklands. In Simon’s Town, thousands of resident penguins await their guests and are just beautiful to see in their natural habitat. Then, follow Boyes Drive (with a quick visit to the shark spotters’ hut) to Kalk Bay, where the vibe is tangible and the shops awesome.

This tour includes collection and drop-off, bottled water, and snacks for the route. It also includes a helmet, gear, and some photographs of your cycle tour. Lunch isn’t included, though, so be sure to pack a light lunch or bring some cash along for a bite along the way. Riders over the age of 12 years are welcome. The tour takes a full day.
