About Camps Bay Pipe Track Walk

A popular hike for energetic visitors that are staying in Camps Bay is the Pipe Track walk. This walk is above the gorgeous beaches of Clifton and Camps Bay, showcasing some of the most spectacular views of the ocean and the 12 Apostles Mountain in Cape Town.

The walk starts at Kloof Nek and, from there, follows the old water pipe all the way to Slangolie Ravine. Keep in mind that parking is at the bottom on the left. The walking track is easy to reach and to follow, and is ideal for children or those that are relatively unfit. There are few inclines or declines, making it a particularly easy and relaxing trail. Walkers that want more of a challenge can simply pick up their pace and get their heart rate up. At a normal walking pace, it takes about three hours to get to Slangolie and back. But, because this is a there-and-back trail, visitors can choose to head back at any time along its course.

The trail exhibits some gorgeous vegetation along the way – ranging all the way from endemic fynbos to massive pine trees. Naturally, it’s the views of Table Mountain and the vast ocean that make the Camps Bay Pipe Track such an incredible experience.

Walkers must always remember to take drinking water and warm clothing along, and to keep applying a high-factor sunscreen. It is also advisable to carry a cell phone and not to walk alone.

Once you have finished the walk, head to the City Bowl for a cold beer or a world-class meal at one of the many award-winning restaurants or cocktail bars. Alternatively, hop on the cable car and go to the top of Table Mountain for a sunset that is nothing short of awe-inspiring.
