About Burchells Track 4x4 Trail
The Burchell’s Track 4 x 4 Trail is just 35 kilometres outside Uniondale, a little town on the famous Route 62 through the Klein Karoo. It is a circular, self-drive route that comprises clay and sandstone terrain, river crossings and exciting rocky inclines.
This trail is 20 kilometres long, and takes between four and six hours to complete. It has a three to four grading. Guides are available to those who would prefer not to navigate it on their own, but Burchell’s Track is a relatively easy one to manage, even for those that are relatively inexperienced.
Because of the natural abundance of the region, there is an array of plant- and animal life to savour on your 4 x 4 adventure. The landscape varies from renosterveld (characterised by hardy, scrubby vegetation) to jade-coloured forests that are verdant and lush. This is an eco-route that promotes the sustenance and care of the wonderful natural resources of this country.
Halfway along this trail is a picnic spot on the banks of a small stream that runs through the forest. However, there are no other facilities and no ablutions along the way, so visitors should come prepared. Other local activities include hiking the mountains, swimming and mountain biking.
