Kerneelia Cottage offers self-catering accommodation in De Rust on a working farm at the foot of the majestic Swartberge in De Rust. The cottage enjoys mountain and farm views.

Self Catering Accommodation

Kerneelia Cottage has one bedroom furnished with a King-size bed that can convert to two single beds. The bathroom is fitted with a shower, toilet and basin. An extra toilet is available outside the cottage. A three-quarter sleeper couch is available in the living area for a third guest.

The kitchen is fully equipped with a gas stove and oven, fridge-freezer, tea and coffee facilities, and cutlery and crockery are provided. Fresh milk and farm butter are provided in the fridge and rusks are available in the pantry. The kitchen opens onto an undercover back patio with a built-in braai area and dining area.

Instead of a swimming pool, guests can take a dip in the large wine barrel on the front patio, overlooking a fire pit a short distance from the house. This is a perfect spot on windless evenings and an excellent vantage point for stargazing. Guests are welcome to make use of the swimming pool at the main farmhouse which is a short walk away.

Hot water is provided by a wood-fired hot water donkey. The cottage is completely off the grid, utilizing, solar, gas and wood for energy.

Pets

Well-mannered pets welcome and guests please need to bring their own bedding. Please note the owners have dogs on the property.

Attractions

Doornkraal is conveniently located on the popular R62 route that stretches all the way from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth. It is only a 10-minute drive from our cottage to the nearest town of De Rust. Other nearby towns include Oudtshoorn, Prins Albert, Dysseldorp, Calitzdorp and Uniondale.

The cottage is within easy reach of the Meiringspoort Gorge, Swartberg Pass, Cango Caves, Prince Albert and the Ostrich Farms. De Rust is a closely-knit farming community and the small-town plays host to quaint shops and interesting characters. It lies between the Groot Swartberg Mountains and the Kammanassie Mountains. Not only does the raw beauty of this area leave us and our visitors breathless but it also produces some of the most delicious wines, olive oil, home-baking, vegetables and fruit.
