Grootfontein Farm House has a main house and an annex. These can be booked separately or together for larger groups.
The main house consists of two bedrooms one with a King-sized bed and one with two single beds, and two bathrooms, one with a shower and the other with a bath and a shower. There is a large kitchen with an oven, fridge and plenty of utensils, crockery and pots.
The living area has a built in braai and leads onto the covered back veranda with table and chairs. The front veranda is also covered and leads to the swimming pool.
The annex is attached to the house and consists of a large room with a king-sized bed and a cot, with an en-suite bathroom and a kitchenette.

The Area
Grootfontein Farm House is an isolated Victorian farmhouse only 7.6km from the N1, 12km south of Beaufort-West and bordering the Karoo National Park. It is a large and comfortable dwelling in which to relax and unwind.
The farm's name aptly describes the reason for its establishment in around 1850 as it is located very close to a large natural spring. In years gone by the spring fed the large and abundant orchards and wheat fields that grew on the plains in front of the homestead. The carefully built furrow still channels the water past the house, but a short walk will take you to the origin of the spring and the impressive stone wall built to create a large dam, where previous owners loved to ski.
Bring your walking shoes and your mountain bikes and explore the veld where several scarce plant species thrive. Pack in your binoculars for bird watching or simply light a fire outside and enjoy the brilliant night sky. There are plenty of books to read and board games to play, and two lovely verandas on which to soak up the peace and quiet.

Fantastic stay at Grootfontein Farm, the Groenhuiz farm house is beautiful, spacious and well appointed. We liked it so much that we extended our stay an additional night. It was the perfect stopover on our way to Cape Town and base to explore the area including a visit to Karoo National Park. We will definitely be back for a longer stay in future. Thank you for the wonderful hospitality.

This rustic farmhouse is a perfect stopover on a trip from Gauteng (or further north) to the Western Cape. A bit off the road (N1), south of Beaufort West - but not too far - far enough that one does not hear the traffic (all those trucks...). The house and apartment are beautifully renovated - this is an original farm house but it now has all the mod cons - not over done -rustic. If you are looking for a quiet stopover for a day or more this is perfect, literally in the middle of nowhere and the sky at night is incredible - no light pollution at all. If you live close to Beaufort West this would also be a perfect weekend get away - there is even a splash pool for those hot summer days. We appreciated being met on arrival and taken through the details - typical farming courtesy. We will be coming back.
