Take a step back in time at Klaarstroom Guest House. Slow down. Rest and remember what a delight it is to just take it easy. Klaarstroom Guest House is situated in the picturesque, peaceful village of Klaarstroom, a tiny, authentic Victorian, farm village at the foot of the Swartberg Mountains.

We are at the Great Karoo entrance to Meiringspoort, a spectacular gorge through the mountains which links the Great Karoo and the Klein Karoo. Just 500m off the N12, Klaarstroom is nestled behind sheltering koppies, making it an ideal restful stopover for those traveling to the coast or taking the inland route between Cape Town and the Eastern Cape.

Accommodation

You are invited to share this special place - a restored Victorian homestead - and to enjoy traditional, gracious Karoo hospitality. Here we offer you space and time slowed down. The house has lofty ceilings, wooden floors and French doors opening onto wide stoeps. The décor is simple and elegant, a blend of period furniture and clean lines, echoing the refreshing purity of the Karoo landscape. All rooms are en-suite with ceiling fans and heating.

Five large and spacious double rooms all with en-suite bathrooms and heaters for those chilly nights.

Breakfast & Dining

Hearty traditional breakfasts using only local free-range eggs and wholesome country suppers are served. As far as we are able, in season, we source the freshest local ingredients and we hope we remind our guests that simple food, well done, is one of life's great pleasures.

Facilities

There's a lounge-dining area with tea and coffee making facilities and a bar fridge. Spacious stoeps are a restful vantage point from which to enjoy mountain views, or sunsets punctuated by the windmill, or simply to watch the world go by – slowly, as it does in Klaarstroom. There is also a swimming pool from which to enjoy panoramic views of the Swartberg mountains as you cool off.

Enjoy walks, drives and cycles in the surrounding countryside, relax and refresh yourself, be dazzled by the starlight, humbled by the silence, be comforted and cared for and restore your soul.

Location

We are the ideal hub from which to explore the Klein Karoo (Oudtshoorn is 60km to the South-West) and the Great Karoo (Prince Albert is 60km to the East and the Karoo National Park is 120km to the North). Klaarstroom Guest House is a particularly pleasant and well-placed stopover en-route to the Baviaanskloof or Gamkaskloof (The Hell) for those who enjoy a touch of luxury in-between the camping!
