About Axe Hill
Axe Hill is located in Calitzdorp in the Klein Karoo wine region, which is known for its fortified wines. The vineyard was established on the Wesoewer in Calitzdorp in 1993. The name of the farm refers to stone age hand tools discovered when preparing the vineyard - and said to be used by Prehistoric humans!
A vintage port is produced in exceptional years, made from Portuguese varieties including Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz, Souzão and Touriga Nacional.
A unique Dry White Port is also produced from locally grown Chenin Blanc. A rare and sought after bottling when available, blended from older and younger vintages for increasing complexity and character!
A range of still wines is also produced, with focus on Portuguese varieties. Other wines include Chenin Blanc, Viognier, Cinsault, Grenache Noir and occasionally, blends. Brands include Axe Hill and Gatos.
The cellar offers tasting and sales and can also prepare rustic Tapas for tastings!
