Numbi Valley Farm is a highly recommended property for self catering in De Rust for up to 4 guests visiting the Karoo region.
In a beautiful secluded Valley of the Klein Karoo, only 12km from the town of De Rust lies Numbi Valley Permaculture farm. Relax in a lovingly built self catering cottage with incredible views over the Olifants River Valley and Swartberg mountain range.
This is a great place from which to explore the region: the world famous Cango Caves, magestic Swartberg Pass to the hamlet of Prince Albert, Meiringspoort or simply relax at the cottage or private plunge pool area and soak up the Karoo sun and sounds.
Wake up in the morning, feeling comfy in your percale cotton linen with mountain views from the queen-size bed. The bathroom with shower, basin and toilet provides hot water from solar with a back-up wood burning donkey heater.
The lounge has a couch, table and chairs for eating dinner by the fireplace (or breakfast with a view) and there's a bookshelf filled with all manner of interesting books. The cottage is clean and cozy, with a large fireplace indoors for chilly winter nights and there is an outside rustic fire pit close to the cottage for appreciating the calm beautiful evenings, braai grids are available to use. There's not much that beats stargazing on a clear night in the Karoo!
The cottage has a fully equipped kitchen with quality pots and pans, crockery and cutlery, a gas stove-oven and small gas fridge. Free Wi-Fi is available on the farm from the owner's cottage at any time.
We practise permaculture on the farm and comfortably live entirely off the grid. We have a small organic garden and orchard, chickens, and an olive grove from which we produce olive oil. We live in a self built Cob Cottage on the farm and are happy to share our knowledge of alternative building techniques with you.
Our fresh water plunge pool, pizza oven and outside barbeque area are there for you to enjoy. We have a cob fire bath in the garden for herbal relaxation therapies.
There are also local olive oils, preserves and jams for sale and you can purchase seasonal vegetables fresh from the garden.
What is loadshedding? It refers to the temporary suspension of electricity provided by Eskom, South Africa's electricity provider, to reduce consumption and thereby the load on the national grid. To compensate, South African property owners are turning to solar power, inverters with backup batteries or in some cases generators to keep the power on, wherever feasible.

Such an oasis of silence! The best place to calm down and relax. Welcomed by friendly and helpful hosts you don't need long to settle down. You will enjoy the atmosphere, the colors of light changing through the day and the magnificent sunset. Cool down in the pool and light the fire for your own braai.

A truly magnificent experience that exceeded all of our expectations. Numbi is a slice of heaven and we felt so privileged to enjoy all the the farm has on offer...the fire bath, yoga with Kath, pizzas, bike rides and walks in the surrounds...too many highlights to mention. We are already plotting our return...thank you for having us...treasured memories!
