Mgwalana River Mouth is situated about 48 kilometres from Port Alfred; a small (but growing) coastal town on the Eastern Cape coastline that has always boasted fabulous surfing waves. Mgwalana River Mouth is a large beach that is secluded from the hustle and bustle of the town centre, while still being within close proximity of everyday conveniences.

The Mgwalana River is favoured by those with little boats or canoes, who want to while away the hot summer days on the tranquillity of the water. The many different bird species that have made the area around the river their habitat can be enjoyed from the boat or from the banks of the river.

The beach at the mouth of the Mgwalana River is quiet and ideal for families with children, or groups of friends that want to soak up the sunshine and fresh air while playing Frisbee, sunbathing or swimming. Other nearby beaches include Mtati River Mouth, Mpekweni River Mouth and Keiskamma River Mouth. In addition, the East London Airport is only a little more than 74 kilometres away from the beach. Port Elizabeth, in Nelson Mandela Bay, is about 90 minutes' drive away and continues to be one of the most popular tourist cities in the Eastern Cape.
