About Shimansky Diamond Experience

The Victoria & Alfred Waterfront in Cape Town is dedicated to showcasing so many of the things that make South Africa a unique, beautiful and intriguing destination. The Shimansky Diamond Experience, located in the Clock Tower at the Waterfront, is one of these little gems.

Against the backdrop of Table Mountain, Devil’s Peak, Lion’s Head and Signal Hill, visitors are welcome to browse the Diamond Museum. But, this is about so much more than an exhibition. The museum invites locals and international visitors to learn about the history of diamond mining in South Africa; a deep history that has shaped so much of the culture and commerce of this Rainbow Nation. In addition, they can take a behind-the-scenes peek into the skills of diamond cutters and polishers in the Shimansky factory; watching as a variety of precious stones and gems (including tanzanite) are lovingly and expertly cut and shaped into spectacular pieces of jewellery.

Those who know their stuff will, no doubt, enjoy seeing the exquisite yellow diamonds, exclusive cut diamonds, and the loose diamonds, all of which are available here for purchase, or just for their aesthetic beauty. Really, the Diamond Museum is about showcasing the loveliness of South African stones, as well as the variety and multifaceted application of these dazzling wonders. Young and old relish the experience.

The museum is open from 09h00 to 21h00 and is a great addition to any Cape Town vacation itinerary. Thanks to its being located right in the heart of the Waterfront, it is also close to an array of other attractions, restaurants and adventures. These include the Two Oceans Aquarium, Robben Island Museum and ferry tours, arts and crafts shed, sunset cruises along the coast of Cape Town, the Cape Wheel, and city tours on the topless double-decker busses.
