Dullstroom may be a small town that is somewhat concealed in the heart of the province of Mpumalanga, but it is home to a real gem, the Royal Coachman Restaurant. This popular eatery combines traditional Italian flavours with an exciting, even extravagant, approach to fine dining.

The one-of-a-kind appeal of the Royal Coachman is partly owing to the banquet style layout, bold burgundy interiors, and its collection of tasteful artworks. It is conveniently situated amongst the shops and boutiques of Naledi Drive, and is a treasure trove of palate delights that is a real treat for those with a penchant for all things delicious.

Thanks to its Italian roots, the menu is filled with classic basics; and the restaurant has become popular for its pizzas, pastas, home-style bakes and seafood. However, the passion behind these dishes makes each one uniquely flamboyant. The menu includes fat black snails, Mozambican-style chicken, slow-cooked braises and wood-oven pizzas. Lighter meals and lunches comprise burgers, tramezzinis and salads.

The passion for good wines underscores the importance of pairing your meal with the right wine, and the Royal Coachman staff members are happy to assist with this selection. Some favourites include the Fat Bastard Chardonnay, Delheim Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz, Beyerskloof Pinotage, and Pongracz.

Outstanding service goes along with the fine fare to make every dining experience at this restaurant a positive one. This extends from the hard-working staff behind the scenes or in the kitchen, to the waitrons and management. The extensive experience of those in the kitchen (including current Head Chef, Lucas van Eeden) goes a long way in ensuring that every plate that is served is backed by experience and a keen enthusiasm for quality and dining trends.
