Blue Crane Farm is an exceptional fly-fishing destination with two beautifully meticulous and well stocked trout dams. The farm is situated approximately 10 minutes drive from the well-known fly fishing destination of Dullstroom with all its amenities, shops, restaurants and attractions.

Self Catering Accommodation

Blue Crane Farm accommodation in Dullstroom consists of 8 well-appointed self-catering units, ranging from the smaller 2 sleeper cottage to our larger 8 sleeper houses. In total the farm can accommodate 44 guests, which makes Blue Crane Farm the ideal venue for small or larger group bookings.

The units offer privacy, although are easily accessible to walk from one to the other, should you have family or friends in a neighboring unit. All units face the waterfront, offering amazing views of the surrounding grasslands.

Activities and Attractions

The farm boasts two beautiful dams where guests can enjoy fly fishing. Our larger dam is an impressive 9 hectares in size and has several jetties to make your fly-fishing experience an even more enjoyable one. Both dams are stocked with rainbow and brown trout.

Bird watching is also a very popular activity on the farm due to the big variety of land and water bird species that can be seen. Endangered bird species such as the Crowned Crane and Blue Crane can also be spotted on a regular basis. We have a Blue Crane breeding pair that nests on one of the islands in the big dam once a year.

The venue offers beautiful scenery with free roaming game species such as fallow deer, springbuck, blesbuck, zebra, hartebeest and vaal rhebuck.

We offer all our guest the opportunity to enjoy nature by hiking on the farm. The farm border is approximately 6km if a circular route is taken. There are a number of interlinked farm roads over the hill that is lovely for hiking, cycling or jogging.

Taking a stroll around the big dam will be close to 1.5km-2km. The difficulty would be easy, all walks are on well kept paths with no climbing involved.

Location

Blue Crane Farm is situated approximately 10mins drive from the charming village of Dullstroom and is easily accessible from the R540, the main road between Belfast and Dullstroom. There are numerous excellent restaurants, shops, craft-beer brewery, whiskey, wine, and gin tasting, and cozy pubs that all form part of this popular tourist destination.

Other nearby attractions include golf at the famous Ernie Els designed, Highland Gate Golf & Trout Estate - approximately 25mins drive via the beautiful Kruisfontein Road, the Bird of Prey Center, mountain biking and horse riding.

The gravel road leading from the main road to the entrance of Blue Crane Farm is only 900m long and well maintained. Any low clearance vehicles can access these roads with ease.

There is a jetty right in front of the unit leading in the dam, ideal for the person who loves fly fishing.

The second bedroom is furnished with two single beds and makes use of a bathroom fitted with a shower, toilet and basin. The cottage has an open plan living room with a TV with Netflix, a dining area and a fully equipped kitchen. Outside there is a stunning stone boma. Close to the wetland area, you will be able to not only see the birds building their nests but wake up to the sounds of the various bird calls. Closer to nature you cannot get.

If you are looking for a peaceful place to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life, Blue Crane Farm is the perfect place to relax and unwind We had the pleasure of breathtaking views and beautiful scenery. Spectacular Sunsets over the water, singing crickets and frogs at night. The Farm is also a haven for birds, we thoroughly enjoyed their presence and chirps. We loved our stay at BlueCrane Farm and hope to return soonest.
