Wag 'n bietjie means 'wait a bit' in Afrikaans and is the name of one of the more common members of the acacia tree family. As the name for the farm it is a play on taking the time to feel the peace of the Waterberg Mountains.
The day trails are 12 km, 6 km and 4 km (Kruin, Kloof and Uitsig) that can easily link up into one trail that takes hikers through the Waterberg Mountains via bushveld, ravines and indigenous forest, offering superb views of the area.
The trails are well marked and managed. Because they are not taxing, they give the hiker plenty of extra time to take in the surrounds and walk at a moderate pace – great for families, first time hikers and groups.
If you are a regular hiker, you might want to do all three as one, or you will not find it demanding enough. Bear in mind that the farm has recently extended their hikes into other areas on the farm.
Wag 'n Bietjie provides a series of wooden cabins as base camp for the trails, but there is also plenty of space to put up the odd tent, and a camp swimming pool in which to cool off post hike. Flush toilets and hot showers make life fairly comfortable, and the kitchen area has a gas stove, some pots, a washing up area and kettle.
You might also catch a glimpse of: antelope, giraffe, zebra, warthog, porcupine, antbear, baboon, black-backed jackal, hyena and the African wild cat.
