About Mfabeni Mission Rocks

The Mfabeni Mission Rocks is part of the spectacular iSimangaliso Wetland Park World Heritage Site in KwaZulu-Natal, less than 300 kilometres from the tourism hotspot of Durban. Mission Rocks is a spectacular retreat where the breath-taking views transport visitors to an other-worldly place of sheer beauty and tranquillity in the heart of South Africa.

Did you know? The floral wealth of the wetland is also particularly noteworthy, and promises gorgeous surrounds to the Mfabeni Mission Rocks Reserve and its visitors.

Mission Rocks is the natural habitat of an array of marine species that make it a valuable contributor to the local biodiversity. The iSimangaliso Wetland Park is also home to a large variety of land-based wildlife species; including the rhino (both black and white), leopard, Cape buffalo and elephant.

The beach at Mission Rocks provides excellent fishing opportunities, and is ideal for those that want to escape city life and stresses and relax within the tranquil surrounds.

The beaches are beautiful, but the water can be tricky, not ideal for swimming. Rather, opt for sun tanning on and walking along the gorgeous sandy stretches while enjoying the views. Remember that the sun is powerful, and the UV rays can be very harmful. Therefore, during your time at Mfabeni Mission Rocks, you should always apply plenty of good quality, high factor sunscreen, wear light protective clothing and keep well hydrated. This applies to your children and pets too.

For visitors to Mfabeni that want to swim, Cape Vidal is a mere 23 kilometres away, and offers a spectacular coastline that is perfect for water sports. In addition to swimming, tourists can snorkel, fish and go ski-boating in these warm ocean waters.

At certain times of the year, whales can be spotted making their way past the shore. These marine mammals spy-hop, breach and lobtail in the waters as spectators look on in awe of their elegance, despite their impressive size.

Mission Rocks is a great picnic spot, and there are picnic tables available for groups of friends or families that want to enjoy the warm South African sunshine and fresh air together.

The iSimangaliso Wetland Park has five different ecosystems, showcasing some of the country’s most beautiful plant and animal species. Game viewing drives, horseback safaris and seasonal turtle tours are all recommended to visitors of the park.
