Mkhulu's House is a private two bedroom holiday home in Hluhluwe is 200 metres from the main Hluhluwe River Lodge and is ideal for a family of four or two couples.

The view from the front deck overlooks the Hluhluwe river floodplain making the front deck and entertainment area a great place to relax and unwind with a good book and a pair of binoculars. The privacy and spaciousness of the open plan environment is ideal for a family breakaway or two couples looking for a self catering home from home in the bush.

Self Catering Accommodation

Mkhulu's House has two bedrooms, the main bedroom has a King-size bed and a spacious en-suite bathroom with a Victorian era bath, shower, outside shower and toilet. The second bedroom has twin beds and an en-suite shower, vanity and toilet facilities.

The main bedroom has a view of the front area of the garden whilst the second room has a window view of the pool area and bush beyond.

The kitchen is equipped with an oven, gas hob fridge freezer as well as a dishwasher. A spacious lounge gives way to a both a dining room and deck with views into the bush.

There is a swimming pool set in the garden and a large deck at the front of the house with an expansive view of the Hluhluwe River and floodplain. The deck is ideal for outdoor dinners with an outdoor counter and barbecue facilities.

The house is serviced daily by a housekeeper who will make beds, tidy and wash dishes on a daily basis. There is an uncovered parking area that will fit two cars.

Dining

The house is equipped for a self-catering holiday however meals may be booked at the lodge restaurant provided the lodge is occupied by guests. Mkhulu's House is a 5 minute walk from the main lodge and we recommend that you bring a torch if you intend booking meals, as the path and road has no lighting. The lodge terrace has a fire pit which is lit every night and dinner is served most often on the outside deck or in the dining room depending on weather.

Activities at The Lodge

Mountain bike trails and guided sandforest hikes. Inclusive activity is not refundable for guests who choose not to partake in the activity or arrive after the activity has departed.

Activities and Attractions

The coastal and marine reserves of Sodwana Bay and Cape Vidal are just an hour's drive from the lodge.

The lodge has a fleet of single speed mountain bikes ideal for exploring the areas within the lodge conservancy. We recommend a ride to False Bay Park which is a 2300 hectare reserve hugging the western shoreline of Lake St Lucia, and forms part of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park.

The Hluhluwe River is a stone's throw from the lodge and meanders between extensive reed beds and a vast floodplain. There is a riverine forest hugging the eastern side of the river and all of these unique environments give rise to a number of bird species frequenting the open water, trees and reed beds.

This activity can be for those wanting to enjoy an evening drink along the river or an early morning mission for the serious birdwatcher searching for a rare sighting.
