About Piesangkloof 4x4 Trails

In the heart of the bush around Hartbeespoort Dam, at the foot of the Magaliesberg Mountain Range in the North West Province, are some excellent 4 x 4 trails that just beg to be explored. These rugged tracks invite visitors to test their vehicles and their skills in completely unspoilt surrounds.

The Piesangkloof adventure includes trails for 4 x 4 vehicles, mountain biking, hiking, quad biking, and enduro offroad adventures. The breath-taking views of this glorious part of South Africa create the perfect backdrop to a day of adrenalin, fun and laughs. There are also irresistible pools that dot the riverine and lure hot, tired travellers for a quick dip.

The 4 x 4 trails on Piesang Farm, of which there are two, are naturally rocky and rugged, with some fantastically technical sections. These take drivers through the farmlands and offer views of the Hartbeespoort Dam and the mountains. Trail 1 is the shorter of the two, but is technical and takes about three hours to complete. Trail 2 is only for advanced drivers as it is extremely technical and takes around five hours to negotiate.

Visitors to Piesangkloof need to use their own 4 x 4 vehicles and quad bikes (which must be low-range or 4 x 4).

There are braai (barbecue) facilities at the bush camp and gorgeous spots on top of the mountain where you can relax with a glass of wine and friends as you get the fire started. There are also wide open spaces that can be booked for events and celebrations, expos and team building initiatives. Because this is a protected biosphere reserve, there are no man-made ablutions along the trails.

Piesangkloof and all of its adventure lies almost two hours outside of Johannesburg, which remains one of Africa’s largest, busiest and wealthiest urban epicentres.
