About Koffylaagte Game Reserve
Nestled in the folds of the Winterberg mountains, lies the tranquil country oasis of Koffylaagte Private Reserve only 130km south-west of Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape. The Reserve is a private reserve and is no longer open to visitors.
Did you know? We regret, this reserve is no longer open to the public.
This reserve, which is home to over 22 different species of African Antelope, giraffe, white rhino and an abundance of other game, was previously used as a private hunting farm. With the purchase of the two adjacent sheep farms, the reserve has been consolidated into 1800 hectares of pristine grazing and browsing grounds for wildlife breeding and sustainable conservation initiatives.
In keeping with the area’s settler history, the original farm house was tastefully renovated and the surrounding areas transformed into a tranquil Karoo oasis with green grass and succulent gardens overlooking a large rock pool that encompass the breathtaking Karoo views.
Alongside the rock pool, a sauna, various indoor and outdoor braai facilities, a thatched lapa, staggered rest and relaxation corners and hammocks have all been discreetly and strategically placed, which create a peaceful ambience.
Special effort was made to preserve the original Karoo farm atmosphere and decorate the farm houses with the furniture and style of that era, whilst keeping the old hunting lodge, the bar and the trophy room with billiard and dart games intact with its original charm.
Nearby attractions include the Addo Elephant National Park, Darlington Dam, Baviaanskloof - the lodge is almost centrally situated between some of the Eastern Cape’s best known tourist attractions.
There is also a level 4 - 4x4 route to the top of the mountain and the breathtaking view of the Darlington dam from the crest of the mountain is a trophy for the experienced driver.
