The National Library of South Africa (NLSA) in Pretoria holds a collection of South African published books, rare manuscripts, maps, newspapers, technical reports as well as official foreign and government publications. Collections are available on paper, microfilm, online, on CD and in digital formats.
In November 1999 the two national libraries (The South African library in Cape Town and the State library in Pretoria) were merged to create the National Library of South Africa. The library preserves documents and provides information and knowledge accessible to the public, researchers, publishers, authors and other libraries.
The NLSA strives to grow and maintain literary culture in South Africa and has many databases and a huge archive promoting writing, publishing and reading as well as distribution of books in all the official South African languages.
