About Buffelsdrift Conservancy

Buffelsdrift Conservancy lies on the western boundaries of the Dinokeng area, between the Roodeplaat Dam and the N1 highway.

Did you know? Visit the watering hole where zebra, kudu, impala and warthog come to drink.

Lying on the western boundaries of the Dinokeng area, between the Roodeplaat Dam and the N1 highway, Buffelsdrift Conservancy has become a fairly popular place to visit not only because it is so easy to reach, so close to both Pretoria and Johannesburg, but also as a birding spot for birders.

This is due in no small part to the proximity of the Roodeplaat dam, from which an extensive canal system runs, and the Pienaars River that runs through the conservancy attracting birds for most of the year.

But Buffelsdrift is far more than simply a wonderful space in which to spot birds. Its location is pretty unique. It lies in an old volcanic crater, a river running through its centre (the aforementioned Pienaars River) and this, together with the fact that this area also lies between the bushveld and the highveld regions and is home to a number of wetlands, rocky ridges and river banks, mean that it has its fair share of animal and plant life.

The owners of the conservancy run a pretty tight ship, making sure that this beautiful piece of African soil is kept as natural as possible. Every month you can attend wildlife talks to promote the conservancy and one is encouraged to drive out to Buffelsdrift to enjoy the hiking trails through the conservancy.

Over and above this there are 'bush birthday expeditions' aimed at children who can look forward to a day of activity whilst parents relax next to a campfire, a tea garden that also functions as a function venue and a guesthouse.
