About The Cat's Meow
Located outside the entrance of the Old Biscuit Mill, The Cat’s Meow is one of the sweetest little vintage stores in Cape Town. Owned and run by mother and daughter team, Barbara and Laura Meek, the Cat’s Meow offers shoppers a smorgasbord of vintage delights, ranging from day frocks, hats and bags, through to sumptuous velvet evening wear, high heels - all adorned with feathers and sequins.
All pieces are authentically vintage and therefore once-off pieces, so the trick is to shop there as often as possible to make sure you find your favourites. Clearly born from a love of vintage collecting, the store is a delectable time warp of 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and 70’s clothing. Vintage jazz singers and crooners waft over the sound waves as you’re greeted warmly by overflowing cupboards and rails of pretty dresses, skirts and blouses. Shoes tumble from their racks, begging you to try them on, while coats languish in their wardrobes, pleading for the onset of winter.
Try the Cat’s Meow next time you need an outfit for a fancy dress party or you’re merely looking for a pretty dress, you’ll be happy you did.
