About Graskop Gorge Lift

In December 2017, the Graskop Lift Company launched its viewing lift, which takes visitors down into the gorge to experience its splendour and scale. This may be the first viewing lift on the continent and promises spectacular views and once-in-a-lifetime adventures.

The Graskop Gorge Lift has been built on the rugged face of the cliff that plummets into the gorge and showcases views of the Motitsi Waterfall and the Afromontane forests, thanks to the glass sides. As you drop 51 metres, look around at the natural loveliness of the Mpumalanga Lowveld and drink in the dramatic landscapes. The Panorama Gorge Waterfall cascades some 70 metres down into the gorge below and is a sight to behold. The lift can take about 26 people and the descent takes a few minutes.

Once you reach the bottom, head out to explore the gorgeous gorge on a circular trail. There are walkways and massive platforms from where to enjoy the fauna and flora around you, as well as educational posters and exhibits. The circular trail through the forests is only 600 metres long, but promises plenty of adventure with its suspension bridges and elevated boardwalks. There are even Selfie Spots for some impressive backdrops to your selfies, as well as plenty of other little gems along the way. It is fabulous for the whole family.

Adventure-addicts can brave the Big Swing, which lets them soar from the safety of a harness, high above the land.

The centre at the top of the gorge, from where the lift drops, has a modern African art gallery, a curio shop, beautiful Afro-centric fashion items, and a community-fuelled arts and crafts market. There is also a restaurant that offers delicious fare and excellent local craft beers.

But, it isn’t only these features that make the Graskop Gorge Lift so special. It is the sound of the birds as they flit overhead, the feel of the sunshine on your face, and the cool, fresh air of the mountains that make it such a memorable and special place to discover.

Graskop is less than an hour away from the gate of the world-renowned Kruger National Park.
