About Iketla Lodge

Time to relax... Time to be at peace with oneself... Time to reflect and time to dream... At Iketla Lodge we offer you the chance to do just that.

Set in an unspoilt part of the northern Drakensberg mountains on the world famous Panorama Route, Iketla Lodge is a nature lover's dream! This private nature conservancy of 540 ha nestles in a natural basin formed by spectacular mountains and cliffs.

A comfortable 4 hour drive from Johannesburg / Pretoria, Iketla is the ideal stopover en-route to the Kruger National Park and other private game reserves. Why not stay for a few days and use Iketla as a base from which to explore the spectacular Panorama Route: Blyde River Canyon (only 30 minutes from Iketla), Bourke's Luck Potholes, God's Window, Pilgrim's Rest, Long Tom Pass, etc.

Live out the meaning of "Iketla" – be relaxed ... be peaceful. Iketla Lodge offers a very informal and relaxed environment. A luxurious infrastructure for a maximum of 16 guests per night guarantees exclusivity, privacy, the opportunity to savour the natural wonders of unspoilt Africa and personal service par excellence! A central thatched area houses the lounge, dining area and bar. It has stunning views of the surrounding mountains. An open sundeck overlooks the sparkling pool.

Guests are accommodated in spacious stone-and-thatch cottages, all with en-suite facilities and private patios. The private patios overlook a natural valley and offer spectacular views of the amphitheatre of mountains and cliffs.

The cottages are individually decorated and guests may choose between double or twin beds. All cottages are equipped with coffee and tea making facilities, reading tables and lounge chairs. The en-suite facilities include shower, toilet and basin as well as an outside, very private, shower.

Rates include dinner and breakfast. A Continental / English breakfast is served from 08h00 to 09h00 in the dining area with spectacular views of the valley. In the evening, guests join the owners for a convivial 3-course dinner of traditional South African cuisine prepared and served with flair. A light lunch can be ordered between 12h00 and 13h00 at nominal extra cost.

Guests can relax around the pool or enjoy nature walks in the bush. Routes, varying from 30 minutes to 4+ hours are well marked and safe. Explore the diverse ecology on your own or in the company of a very experienced and knowledgeable guide. Iketla is also ideally located to explore the famous Panorama Route (Blyde River Canyon, Potholes, God’s Window, etc).

Iketla Lodge is owned and managed by Albert & Hennielene Botha who previously owned a private game lodge in the Greater Kruger Park area for 9 years. It has long been their dream to establish a nature retreat where guests can be totally relaxed. They have vast experience in the hospitality industry and their hallmark has always been their personal service and attention to detail.

This was my second visit to Iketla Lodge and it was a delight all over again. The accommodations were excellent: individual cottages with ALL amenities, wonderful view over a small river valley, quiet, peaceful, and a staff that is completely oriented on the guests. It is a fair distance from airports and that allows it to be such a restful place. I am about to visit for a third time. I live in California, USA so this is at the end of a long flight. I hope this shows the reader how much I enjoy Iketla. Within easy driving are several very unique places to visit: Moholoholo Wild Life Rehab Center, and of course, African elephant rides in Hazyview. Take the time to enjoy!!

I visited Iketla Lodge. What a wonderful experience. Excellent food and accomodation. The personal touch from the hosts Albert and Hennielene Botha makes you feel at home and like part of the family. The peaceful and tranquill atmosphere is food for your soul. A place to be recommended. My experience at Iketla was one of awe and wonder. The beautiful scenery took my breath away. Wonderful hiking trails and close enough to visit other beautiful places close by. A truely wonderful visit.
