About Pioneers Restaurant
Parsonage Street is particularly noteworthy in two respects. It has more national monuments than any other street in South Africa and it is also known as South Africa's most beautiful street. One house away from the museum is Pioneers Restaurant, itself a national monument and, since 2001, a restaurant.
Pioneers Restaurant is all about excellent food, generous portions and great value for money. Pioneers serves South African favourites, made to perfection, with an emphasis on delicious and succulent meat dishes, off the grill.
Favourite dishes include the famous spare ribs, which are pork belly ribs, served boneless; lamb chops (the best in the Karoo, according to Joanne Floris in Die Burger newspaper) and Aunt Clara’s souffle omelettes, which have apparently won many of the town’s annual omelette competitions!
Pioneers surprised and delighted us with some outstanding dishes, such as the Baby beef Bombay; Kudu schnitzel; Ostrich carpacchio...and sushi!
A lovely touch is the complimentary bean soup with fresh home baked bread and butter while you wait for your main course to be prepared. For those who do not want an à la carte meal at lunchtime, Pioneers also provides a selection of typical tasty pub lunches.
