Abbotsbury Guest Farm is a highly recommended Graaff Reinet hotel providing accommodation in 3 guest rooms for tourists visiting the Karoo Heartland region.

About Abbotsbury Guest Farm

Abbotsbury, near Graaff-Reinet, the Gem of the Karoo, is ideally situated as a half way stopover between Johannesburg, to and from the South and East coasts of South Africa. Abbotsbury offers its guests luxurious accommodation in Graff-Rienet, delicious country cooking, abundant birdlife and game viewing walks. Schedule some extra time to relax and enjoy, our peaceful surroundings, and wildlife ...

Abbotsbury is a 4300 acre sheep farm situated on the N9 main road from Johannesburg and Durban to the Garden Route, Plettenberg Bay, Knysna and Cape Town. The beautiful valleys with their towering rock formations, where the Black Eagles, caracal and klipspringer live, are also home to the majestic kudu, mountain reedbuck and the rare grey rhebuck.

Just 3 kms off the N9, up a good gravel road through the grazing springbuck and steenbok, is the carefully restored homestead set in beautiful gardens with rolling green, manicured lawns. Sue and Gordon are there to meet you and show you into your Graaff-Reinet accommodation, where you can relax in privacy after a day travelling or sightseeing. Enjoy warm hospitality, the fresh Karoo air and amazing night skies.

ACCOMMODATION

The accommodation comprises one 2-bedroom cottage and private suite. All the accommodation has white cotton linen, white fluffy towels, bone china crockery , silver cutlery and fine glassware. The furniture is predominantly restored antique Cape cottage furniture, with wool or mohair carpets.

All accommodation has a safe, overhead fans and free-standing fans, heaters and wall heaters, alarm clocks, tea and coffee making facilities, fresh milk, home-made rusks and an honesty bar if required. Wrapped soaps, shampoo and body lotions are supplied.

Please see the individual cottage or suite descriptions and photographs below, to assist you with your choice.

DINING

Your meals, Abbotsburys large breakfast, or a dinner of local specialities of lamb, venison or vegetarian, with fresh vegetables and lettuce picked from her kitchen garden, and personally prepared by Sue, are served in your private dining room on bone china with silver cutlery and fine glassware.

ACTIVITIES

You can walk freely in this safe haven, with hiking paths up the valleys onto the mountains.

Close by is the Historic town of Graaff-Reinet with its Valley of Desolation, numerous well-known museums and art galleries, Nieu-Bethesda and the famous Owl House, and the Cradock Mountain Zebra Park with the rare Mountain Zebra.

LOCATION

Abbotsbury is situated on the N9 main road, 80 kms south of Middleburg, C.P. and 27 kms north of Graaff-Reinet, between Gauteng and Durban, and the Garden Route and Cape Town. Although the main road goes through the farm, the homestead is 3 kms off the main road, on a well-maintained gravel road.

Loadshedding Facilities

What is loadshedding? It refers to the temporary suspension of electricity provided by Eskom, South Africa's electricity provider, to reduce consumption and thereby the load on the national grid. charming early 1800s farm stead set in a breath taking vally at the end of a 4km dirt track, this B&B really is the perfect place to relax and unwind. After a walk in the hills we were treated to dinner of excellent karoo lamb in our own private cottage, with dessert on our private terrace overlooking the hills and the sound of kudu rustling in the hills. An unforgettable experience of pure relaxation, pampering and nature with Sue a charming hostess. Magic!
