About Dinokeng Game Reserve

Why Dinokeng Game Reserve is such an attraction is because it provides Big 5 game viewing really close to Pretoria - half an hour, or an hour from OR Tambo International Airport. Which means you can simply fall out of the plane and be in the 'bush' pronto.

Did you know? Dinokeng is a Big 5 Malaria free game reserve.

Dinokeng translates into 'place of two rivers' - in this case the Elands and Pienaars - an area close to the town of Cullinan established as a tourist destination and part of a government initiative.

Free roaming lion and elephant, the first in over a hundred years in the Tshwane Metro, is an impressive draw card, as are white rhino, hyena, giraffe, leopard and buffalo.

The relatively young Dinokeng reserve, opened only in late 2011, is 18 500 hectares of former farming land restored for use as it originally must have been – as home to wild animals. The reserve has a number of accommodation options in separate game lodges, farm stays, bush camps and chalets.

Activities include day and night game drives, sunset boat cruises, guided bush walks, bush lunch picnics, bass fishing and game viewing.

Those who have visited the Dinokeng reserve rave about the experience, which is possibly why you should book a game drive ahead of arrival, as they fill up quickly and no self driving is permissible in the reserve.

The Dinokeng Game reserve is unique in the sense that it involves private landowners who have agreed to incorporate their land into the game reserve, supported by the government who has funded any infrastructure necessary in its creation. The former farmers benefit by developing tourism facilities on their respective holdings, which is why you can stay at anything from a farmstay to a lodge.

Conservation fees are applicable.

Although you can visit the reserve as a day visitor, to fully appreciate the Dinokeng Game Reserve we recommend an overnight stay. SA-Venues.com features a range of accommodation options within the reserve to suit all travel needs and budgets. Our Dinokeng Accommodation search facility is easy to use. Lodges within the reserve include self-catering, B&B style and fully catered game lodges. Special offers are highlighted, and reviews will help you make informed choices.
