Somabula Nature Reserve is a well-kept secret near the historic town of Cullinan, just a short drive from both Johannesburg and Pretoria. This peaceful retreat spans 400 hectares of pristine bushveld, teeming with indigenous trees, free-roaming wildlife, and an extraordinary diversity of bird species. It offers an ideal escape for those seeking tranquillity, nature, and a more rustic, authentic experience of the African outdoors.
Self-Catering Accommodation
Accommodation at Somabula Nature Reserve caters to a variety of preferences and includes charming stone-and-wood chalets, a tranquil camping area, and unique lodging in beautifully restored ox wagons.
The secluded chalets are thoughtfully positioned to ensure privacy and a true immersion in nature. Each unit sleeps up to four guests and is furnished with linen, bedding, crockery, and lamps for added comfort. The chalets are fully equipped for self-catering, featuring gas stoves, refrigeration, hot and cold running water, and dedicated braai areas. Guests are also provided with one complimentary bundle of firewood.
The restored ox wagons offer a distinctive and nostalgic accommodation option. Guests have access to a communal kitchen and lounge area, shared ablution facilities with hot and cold water, as well as fridges, bedding, and crockery. For campers, the site includes individual braai areas and access to open-air ablution blocks with hot and cold water, allowing for a simple yet comfortable outdoor stay.

On Site Activities
Guests at Somabula can enjoy a range of nature-based activities. Day and night game drives provide the opportunity to view a variety of wildlife in their natural environment. The reserve also features dedicated trails for walking, mountain biking, and horse riding, for exploring the landscape at your own pace.
Day visitors are welcome to make use of the well-equipped lapa, complete with a braai area, making it an excellent venue for family get-togethers or small private functions.
