About Stoumann's Wines
You'll find the Stourmann's Wines in the heart of the Olifants River Valley. Their aim is to produce top quality wines, but only in small quantities. Their Vin de la Tortue, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon wines are matured in small oak barrels.
The winery first marketed their wine in 1998 with only 2800 bottles. When Eric Schlünz joined the Stourmann's team in 2008 as manager and winemaker the cellar expanded so that they are now able to accommodate 500 tons of grapes.
You may wonder why the labels and corks of this wine have a tortoise on them. This is because both the family in conjunction with Nature Conservation are dedicated to both the protection and resettlement of the endangered geometric tortoise of Namaqualand, the "suurpootjie". The tortoise is well known for its gradual pace so is the cellars flagship wine, Vin de la Tortue, follows in these tracks. The wine follows production methods which have been used for centuries.
