About Galileo Open Air Cinema Kirstenbosch
The Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens are somewhat acclaimed for the excellent entertainment on offer at this exquisite venue; in addition to the impressive collection of trees, flowers, succulents, herbs and medicinal plants. Live orchestras, concerts and other performances are always a massive hit amongst Capetonians and visitors alike, especially when enjoyed to a beautiful backdrop. The Galileo Open Air Cinema combines all of the most enticing aspects of a night at the movies with unrivalled natural surrounds that are acclaimed around the world for their variety and quality.
Here, on the slopes of Table Mountain, Galileo is an outdoor cinema that boasts a line-up to impress. The choice ranges from old classics like The Breakfast Club and Point Break to musicals like Mama Mia and West Side Story; from romantic comedies like 50 First Dates to fascinating modern documentaries like Finding Sugar Man. Such variety ensures that there is something for everyone and that an outdoor movie night is a must for families and friends.
This is a Savanna initiative, and the company goes a long way in ensuring that it is memorable and special. The market boasts artisanal food and beverages, live music and interactive games. Come early (gates open at 18h00) to reserve your movie seat and then browse around; finding fabulous treasures and meeting new folk before the movie starts at sunset. The new VIP seating means that viewers can enjoy the comfiest seats with a backrest, blanket, snacks and a refreshing Savanna Cider. Other ticket options are also available, depending on your needs and preferences.
The Kirstenbosch Gardens venue is used for the Galileo Open Air Cinema’s Wednesday screenings from November to April, making the most of the gorgeous summer months of the Cape. Tickets to a magical screening under an umbrella of astral freckles can conveniently be obtained via the website
