About The Blue Café
The vibrant suburb of Tamboerskloof is one of Cape Town’s most popular and every street is dotted with things to do and see, giving locals and visitors the prime opportunity to explore its multifaceted appeal against the backdrop of Table Mountain and the City Bowl.
The Blue Café is particularly special, having been established as a deli and café since 1904. Through the generations, it has become imbued with history and heritage, which lends it a unique character that transcends time and urban development. It was between the decades of the 1970’s and the 1990’s that it became known as the “blue café” because of its distinctive colour. For a while after that, it was transformed into the Daily Deli. However, in 2014, it was taken over and returned to its iconic blue colour. Now, it carries the official name that was, for so long, a nickname, and it continues to invite local regulars and international tourists to enjoy the vibe, friendly service and delicious meals.
The Blue Café is set apart from many of its contemporaries for its commitment to using fresh, local ingredients. Some of the fresh produce is grown right in the heart of Tamboerskloof by those that call this suburb home. In addition, it trades on account to enable patrons to frequent it easily and conveniently. Home deliveries and take-away options make Blue Café an even more convenient and accessible option.
WiFi is available for those needing to catch up on emails or send vacation photographs to their friends and family back home. There is also an outdoor dining area. The restaurant is open from Monday to Sunday, from 07h30 to 22h00, making it the perfect spot in which to enjoy tasty treats at any time of the day or week.
