Overnight? Stay at accommodation in Porterville, in Western Cape

Just 130 kilometres north of Cape Town, in the heart of the pretty little town of Porterville, is the hub of beer-loving activity - Indie Ale Craft Brewery. This micro-brewery celebrates the art of beer-making, coupled with the real commitment and passion that comes from a family-owned and run enterprise.

Indie Ale boasts a selection of crafted beers on tap, all infused with an innovative approach to beer-making that sets them apart from the mainstream. There three main beers are the:

1. 24-River Blonde (4,5%)
This is a light, crisp beer with a gentle hops perfume and subtle nuances of guava. It is medium-bodied with a caramel, malty finish.

2. Cochoqua Red Ale (5,5%)
Indie Ale has combined rooibos, honey and local hops to create reddish amber ale that is medium-bodied, spicy and a little sweet. The subtle floral overtones are delicious.

3. Porter’ville Porter (5,5%)
This rich dark ale has a dense head and distinct flavours of cocoa, coffee, malt and berries. This medium-bodied ale has a comforting smoky quality to it that is irresistible in winter.

Beer tastings are held from Wednesday to Sunday, and tours of the brewery are fascinating. On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, visitors to the Indie Ale Craft Brewery can also indulge in moreish handmade, wood-fired pizzas. In addition to the beer, there are wines and spirits on offer, as well as soft drinks.

The big lawn and play area are fantastic for little ones that have energy to burn. There are farm animals to feed too, which is always a firm favourite. Visitors that are keen on knowing the score of a big game are welcome to check it out on the TV in the bar. Otherwise, there is great music playing and, on occasion, live performances of local artists.

Porterville is picturesque, making the most out of its idyllic location amongst the mountains of the Olifants River. There are many hiking and cycling trails around here; the perfect way to see the stunning fauna and flora (including hundreds of bird species) of the Western Cape.
