About Taste Nitida Wines at the Cellar

Nitida Wines are named after the protea nitida which grows amongst endangered Renosterveld Flora. The story of this small wine cellar’s humble beginnings is a heart-warming one where owner Bernhard Veller, a qualified engineer, bought the farm in 1990 (with help from his mother-in-law), were taught by farm worker Klaas how to milk cows and saw them planting their first vineyards together in 1992.

After running a farm with 50 sheep and 2 cows and making all the wines himself for the first three years, he has most recently handed the reigns over to Helgard van Schalkwyk. Having intended to only make a few barrels, after producing their first double-gold Sauvignon Blanc within three years, Nitida is still recognised as a top boutique wine cellar.

Visit one of their two restaurants: Cassia overlooking the dam, or Tables, where a big lawn beckons you to relax and recharge. While you can dine on the decks of Cassia and celebrate a wedding or host a conference, Tables offers seating outside with a jungle gym which makes it perfect for those family lunches and outings – bring the 2- and 4-legged kids!
