About Country Craft Market

During the balmy summer months of the Western Cape in South Africa, there are few better ways to spend a Saturday than in the gorgeous outdoors. The Country Craft Market is an outdoor market in Somerset West that is held on two Saturdays a month (dates are available on the website, but the market is guaranteed to be on the last Saturday of the month). During December, there will be extra markets to make the most out of summer vacations.

Having been established in 1983, this market has earned its reputation as a fantastic art and craft market that showcases hand-crafted goods of the highest quality.

Some of the products and crafts on offer across the 180 stalls include:
• Fashion accessories
• Home décor items
• African artefacts
• Crochet items
• Beadwork (including jewellery, wire sculptures, ornaments, and décor items)
• Appliqué work
• Baskets
• Bags
• Candles
• Bonsai supplies
• Books
• Ceramics
• Stationery
• Toys and activities for children
• Clocks
• Clothing
• Cushions
• Embroidery
• Flowers
• Art
• Pet products

There is also plenty of food available at a number of stalls at the market. This includes moreish burgers, Indian fare, fresh breads and cakes, and hot tea and coffee. There is something to suit every palate and preference.

The Country Craft Market is in the park-like setting of Southey’s Vines, where there is plenty of free parking, and the facilities are great for both children and pets. The market is open from 09h00 to 14h00. Somerset West is only about 35 minutes from Cape Town and its international airport, and about 25 minutes from the wine capital of Stellenbosch.

The market is held mostly twice a month, always on the last Saturday of the month and one other. Check website for details: http://www.countrycraftmarket.org
