About Woza Moya Craft Store

The Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust (HACT) has a number of fantastic initiatives on the go for the support and care of those suffering from or affected by HIV/AIDS. One of these is the Woza Moya craft store, which has been designed to train and mentor members of the community, as well as to provide market access to more than 1 000 crafters from the area. Locals to the Valley of 1 000 Hills are given a space and platform on which to create stunning beadwork and other pieces and to sell these to the public. By doing this, the community is uplifted and given the opportunity to support themselves and one another.

Woza Moya is made up of three arts and craft shops and galleries. In these, a gorgeous combination of clothing, accessories, jewellery, ornaments, gifts and goodies for the table are on offer. The arts and crafts include ceramic items, wire-and-bead creations, sewn and crocheted pieces, wirework, and more. This makes it a delight to explore and the ideal place from which to get all of your South African gifts and mementoes for those back home.

This studio was the birthplace of a number of renowned pieces; including the world’s first suit made entirely of beading and the Dreams for Africa Chair.

Woza Moya is situated in Old Main Road in Hillcrest. This is a suburb on the outskirts of Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, which is a bustling metropolis that is also home to the King Shaka International Airport, Mitchell Park Zoo, Kings Park Stadium and uShaka Marine World.
