About Stoney Ridge 4x4 Trail
Stoney Ridge actually comprises five different 4x4 trails, promising driving enthusiasts a world of exploration and wonderful views. There is a sixth trail that can be handled by 4x4 or 4x2 vehicles.
Situated just 20 kilometres from Weenen, in the lush subtropical province of KwaZulu-Natal, Stoney Ridge is made up of steep inclines, muddy areas, river crossings and dongas to challenge 4x4 drivers of different abilities – from experienced to newby.
The route is only 15 kilometres long, but takes between 10 and 12 hours to complete, thanks to its varied terrain. These trails are used to train drivers because they offer such a range of options and demands. They range from grade one to grade five.
Drivers can opt to tackle the trails alone or to have an experienced guide to show them features and tricks for each trail. For those doing the drive sans a guide, a GPS and map will be provided, and escape routes for tricky areas indicated clearly.
For those visiting the Stoney Ridge 4x4 Trails, there are a number of other activities in which to indulge. These include hiking, mountain biking, fishing, bird-watching and archery.
