Big Bay, Bloubergstrand

About Big Bay Café

In the Seaside Village Centre, with views of Table Mountain in the distance and the salty scent of the sea spray, lies the Big Bay Café. This part of Bloubergstrand is known as Big Bay and is a kitesurfing and foiling epicentre, and a popular holiday spot for those wanting to get the most out of the gorgeous coast of Cape Town.

The Cafe is a regular meeting place for many of the locals, who love it for the trendy décor (which combines Karoo chic with city slick), friendly service and the delicious range of food. The menu offers a comprehensive selection of sweet and savoury dishes, including low-carb options. Breakfasts include a breakfast burger or a breakfast wrap, omelettes, eggs Benedict, comforting oats with toasted nuts, muesli and yoghurt, and some more traditional bacon-and-egg options.

Light lunches present diners with plenty of variety. The menu includes chicken and avo salad, fish cakes, the quiche or soup of the day, chicken schnitzel with a cheese or mushroom sauce, or the penne pesto salad with bacon. The Banting, or low-carb, options are Cajun chicken breast with cauliflower purée and guacamole, moussaka with a green salad, a beef tower with plenty of vegetables and a mushroom sauce, and the bell peppers that have been stuffed with mince, spinach, and mushrooms. There are also chicken and beef burgers with chips.

Children can choose between toasted sandwiches, chicken strips, mince on penne, or fish nuggets with chips or vegetables.

Those who have a sweet tooth or want to indulge in a treat can choose from a selection of fresh cakes, or from the dessert menu. The lemon poppy-seed berry cheesecake pancake (an even bigger mouthful than its name), scones with jam and cream, or flavourful muffins are delightfully tempting.

Enjoying Blouberg and its gorgeous beaches has never been this delicious.
