Nassau Winery is one of the wineries situated south of Malmesbury, the main business centre of the Swartland. It lies on the Lambrechtís family farm just off Klipheuwel Road.
Wine was first produced on this farm in 2003 so it is a fairly new kid on the block amongst South African wine estates. 120 hectares are planted under vine with 1000 tonnes of grapes produced. 10 tonnes of this production are ploughed into the making of the Black Ridge label whilst the rest is sent to Nederburg and Windmeul cellars. The Nassau winery produces reds and whites including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet/Merlot blend, Shiraz, Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc. The farm not only produces quality grapes and wine but also wheat and sheep.
The summers in this region are generally very hot and dry but the farm enjoys the cool sea breezes off the Atlantic Ocean which bring about a cooler climate. There are sand soils which are ideal for Rhone cultivars as well as deeper red and fertile soils which are ideal for dry-land vineyards.
