About Dragonridge Winery
Fynbos Estate produces about 200 tons of grapes each year, half of which are sent to Swartland Winery. The rest is used to craft small quantities of hand-crafted wines under the Dragonridge label. The name 'Dragonridge' was chosen for one of the mountains on the farm, which resembles a sleeping dragon and is known as 'Dragonridge'. We also like the connotation of potency and magic.
During harvest, wine-making getaways have been a great success and will be repeated each year. Here groups or individuals book a weekend of hands-on wine making experience from picking to bottling, and enjoy all the benefits of comfortable accommodation and delicious food.
Throughout the year Dragonridge Winery and Fynbos Estate offer Wine Tasting Getaways, either as one-day or overnight retreats. Guests can enjoy wine tastings on the farm of Dragonridge Wines as well as wines of other small boutique wineries in the area. A tour of larger wineries in the district can also be arranged, on request.
Dragonridge is a gem of a wine estate in the Swartland and forms part of a Fynbos Estate. The name comes from the dragon-shaped mountain and they believe there is potency as well as magical qualities to their wines. They grow Mediterranean cultivars in the Joubertsloof in the Paardeberg and still use methods hailing from the early 1900's. These methods include natural fermentation, minimal handling, minimal sulphur, light pressing and no filtration. They aim to make a wine that really portrays the incredible conditions of this region.
Dragonride vineyards are unirrigated and pruned resulting in grapes with concentrated flavours at a low PH. These are wines which develop beautifully in the cellar. They form a part of the Swartland Independent Producers.
To view more wine estates in the region see Swartland Wine Estates or see South Africa Wine Estates for a general overview and links to other wine producing regions.
