While Seaton Park is small, at just six hectares, it certainly is pretty. It is a welcome getaway from the city centre of Durban (which is a mere 15 minute drive away) and offers its guests the relaxing ambience of tall green trees and beautiful birds.
Seaton Park is occupied, by and large, by coastal forest, which is simultaneously attractive and an excellent habitat for many bird species. The African goshawk is one of the avian residents of Seaton Park that continues to delight its visitors. Whether you visit the park to embark on one of its walking trails (the Yellowwood Trail or the Bamboo Trail), or simply to stroll the area and enjoy the fresh air and melodic sounds of the birds, you are sure to get your fix of the natural beauty of KwaZulu-Natal.
The Natal loquat and the forest ironplum are both notable trees that are quite special finds for those with a penchant for plants. The trails are scarcely longer than a kilometre, but make for great spots in which to get the heart pumping on a Saturday morning or over a mid-week lunch break.
The park is open at all times and there is no entrance fee. There is a small play area for little ones. Those visiting Seaton are advised to bring along fresh drinking water, sunscreen, a camera and some light refreshments.
