About Wegraakbosch Farm

The elegant drama of the Magoebaskloof Mountains creates the perfect setting in which to indulge in some of Wegraakbosch’s exquisite cheeses. This Wegraakbosch Farm is an eco-friendly farm, the origins of which were inspired by the owners’ trip to Switzerland, where they visited an authentic Swizz dairy in the Wandel Alps. Once they had experienced these flavours, and learnt to make these delicious cheeses, they established Wegraakbosch in 1986.

Wegraakbosch Farm produces a range of traditional cheeses, which include Mutchli, Emmenthaler, Harvati, Tilsiter, Feta, and several cream cheese varieties. Each is completely organic, making the best use of fantastic ingredients and age-old processes to showcase the best possible flavours and textures.

The herd of Swiss brown cows and Saanen goats roam the surrounding countryside, indulging in delicious greens and producing the milk used for the cheeses. Then, the cheese is made using traditional Swiss methods and live cultures. No machines are involved in the making of these top-notch dairy delights and the entire dairy and the house are solar-powered. All of the weeding is done by hand and no pesticides are used on the plants. All of these measures combine to ensure that the entire Wegraakbosch experience is one of untainted wonder and pure organic goodness.

Dairy tours are on offer, inviting visitors the opportunity to learn about the cheese-making process and the secrets behind the fabulous products that they get to sample. Afterwards, relax in these scenic surrounds and enjoy a ploughman’s platter for lunch, which includes breads and cheeses, and a glass of the excellent wine for which South Africa is renowned around the world. With the views of these seemingly endless mountains and the verdant Limpopo Province vegetation, Wegraakbosch Farm really is a retreat of gorgeous proportions.
