About Magoebaskloof Birders Cottages

Magoebaskloof Birders' Cottages are located on Dragonwyck Farm in the Magoebaskloof on the edge of the Limpopo Drakensberg escarpment. Dragonwyck Farm is a working farm producing avocados and indigenous plants. Various walks on the farm follow the streams and provide access to escarpment forest. Dragonwyk Farm practises natural farming methods, and as a result has many birds and animals coexisting with us on the farm.

Woodbush Forest, one of the premier birding spots in South Africa, is a short drive away. Scenic drives in the district offer excellent bird watching. Fishing and adventure activities are available in the Haenertsburg area. Each cottage is surrounded by indigenous plants, providing the ideal habitat for many birds and animals. We have two self catering cottages.

Self Catering Accommodation

Narina Cottage
Narina Trogon has two entirely separate units: Narina Cottage and Trogon Cottage (the original Trogon Cottage). This arrangement is ideal for two couples travelling together but would prefer their accommodation to be separate

Narina Cottage has a double bed plus a large couch in the bedroom suitable for younger children. It has a portable braai stand and a built- in braai/fireplace in the rondavel. The rondavel braai is perfect for those cold and wet Magoebaskloof days. Narina Cottage has an inside shower and a private outside double bath

Trogon Cottage
Trogon Cottage can have either a King size bed or two single beds. It has a portable braai. The fireplace is designed to be used as a braai when it is cold and wet. Trogon Cottage has a splash pool. Trogon Cottage has an inside shower and double bath with a private double bath outside.

Robin Cottage (Two Bedrooms)
The cottage has two bedrooms. Both bedrooms have double beds. The cottage can be booked by a couple or a family. Ideal for two couples. It can sleep a family of 6. The cottage has outside and indoor bathrooms. The outside bathroom has a double bath, shower and toilet. The inside bathroom has a shower and toilet. The second room has a double bed on the mezzanine level with two single beds on the lower level. Linen and towels are provided. The cottage is not serviced.

Hot water is supplied by a wood burning donkey(geyser). The donkey will be lit for guests every morning and evening. The cottage is fully equipped for self-catering with a gas stove, fridge/freezer, microwave and kitchen utensils. A braai stand is supplied. We supply a packet of wood per day for the warming fire. Charcoal and firewood are available on an honesty payment system. The cottage is a no-smoking zone; smokers are kindly requested to smoke outside. Regret no pets are allowed ion this unit.

Please Note

The cottages are accessed by a 2 km dirt road. The road is not suitable for low profile cars or drivers who are unaccustomed to dirt roads.
